Whether you’re a lady of the evening, one who lunches, a drag queen, the well dressed man, just super hip and funky or a Bohemian, vintage shop Screaming Mimi’s has something for you. It’s on every savvy New Yorkers fashionistas list or should be.
I love it there because I know that I’ll be purchasing a unique piece that’s not found in everyone’s closet and it’s usually one of a kind. I’m often stopped on the street with “where did you get that?!”
Part of the the premise is taking the the old and making it modern. They have sunglasses that range from $5 to $495, great jewelry, hats, shoes and handbags and casual to high-end clothing featuring brands like Balenciaga, Yves Saint Laurent and Courreges.
Check out the private penthouse for haute couture and top of the line vintage clothing. Their styles range from the 1950’s to the 1990’s. They sell unique, one-of-a-kind ties and cuff links for men, as well as shoes for both sexes. Most prices are pretty affordable, the stock is full and the staff is friendly and always willing to help.
If you’re going to a prom, wedding, costume party or Saturday Night Fevering out on the town, they have plenty of options as well. Even if you don’t find something the day you go in, browsing is a lot of fun.
Then perhaps take a short walk and celebrate your find at Balthazar for some delicious bistro fare! They are known for some of the best french fries in NYC!
