Like anything that Taylor Swift touches, in a matter of 24 hours, her new single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” shot to No. 1 on the iTunes chart faster than any song in history, says MSN Music UK yesterday morning. This is the first single off her upcoming Red album, which is expected to be out in late October. During Monday’s online interview, Swift explains the album will be a lengthy 16 tracks, including a duet with Ed Sheeran (eeee!).
The song is a reminder of a new type of Pop Music. Much like P!NK, Avril Lavigne, and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”, the song is catchy, an anthem for the next 6 months, and has teenage girls all over the world memorizing the lyrics as we speak. It’s repetitive “OOOOHH”s, and relationship frustration pours out of the song, and shows far Taylor Swift has intwined into the pop world. Although I am sad to see her leave her Country Roots, I’m curious to see the evolution of her fourth album. It will no doubt be soon over played, so view it, know it, and be prepared to hear it until your ears bleed.
The only question I have remaining….who pissed off Taylor Swift enough to have this song written about them?
