Fall Fashion Trends: 5 Items Every Girl Should Have In Her Closet This Season

In my opinion, the beginning of fall is always the best time of year in New York. Pumpkin spice lattés, cooler subway platforms and Oktoberfests are just a few reasons why this season is my favorite. However, the crowning reason why New Yorkers seem to love autumn is of course the fashion. From cozy oversized sweaters to sky-high leather boots, cold-weather styles continue to rule the fashion world.

In an effort to ensure you are all keenly aware of the hottest fall 2012 trends we’ve picked our five must-have fashion items. And as a new season doesn’t necessarily mean a bigger paycheck we’ve included stylish picks for any budget.

The Casual Ankle Boot

No other fashion item is as versatile as the ankle boot. This comfortable shoe can be worn with pants, skirts, dresses and even shorts and is the perfect weekend footwear. Designer favorite Michael Kors offers his beautiful Wayland Short Suede Boot for $325 while you can stop by Forever 21 and snag their Buckled Booties for just $34 bucks.

Brimmed Hats

Blame it on the Kardashians or Jenny from the Block but hats are here to stay. The brimmed hat is the perfect accessory to glam up any outfit. Guess offers a wide brimmed Gaucho hat in this season’s it color burgundy for $108. H&M’s take on the Fedora is a great choice with its bow accent for only $17.95.

Moto Leather Jacket

Nothing says sexy badass quite like the motorcycle-inspired leather jacket. Whether for a night out or the Saturday brunch, moto leather jackets have just the right amount of edge. My favorite is the Traditional Leather Jacket from Top Shop for $310. Forever 21 offers a more affordable faux leather Moto Jacket for $34.

Graphic Print Dresses

The graphic print dress is the ultimate item for work. Able to go from day to night these dresses are feminine and add a splash of color to the normally neutral corporate wardrobe. Madewell has a beautiful pleated floral dress for $165 while Asos’ wallpaper-inspired pencil dress retails for just $73.88.

Peplum Tops

The peplum top may be the most flattering fashion item this season. Perfect for all body types this is the ideal date-night top. Piperlime features a vegan leather peplum top by Tinley Road for $98. H&M’s jersey peplum top comes in both pink and burgundy for $34.95.

  1. I have to 100% agree that Fall/Winter fashion rules the world! I mean, who doesn’t love to pull out their leather jacket and feel like a bad ass for the day? I am happy i read this whole article because my favorite style of shirt for the past couple months is something that i had no clue the name of… until now! So thank you Lauren for introducing me to the “Peplum Tops” name. Now I can sound all fashion savy when discussing my favorite tops!

  2. I really like the look of the casual ankle boot. I’ve only seen it super expensive – thanks for showing me where to get it considerably cheaper!
