If you couldn’t tell by my holiday-themed posts, the holidays are my favorite time of the year. When I moved to NYC, I was overjoyed by the fact that many like me are willing to spread the holiday cheer. In my mind, the holidays start with Halloween, continue through the NYC Marathon, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s, and end one week afterwards with yours truly’s birthday. For many, the holidays can be a whirlwind. The holidays are about the little things: pumpkin pie, writing letters to Santa, family visits, etc. The decorations add the extra bit of sparkle to the months to come, and remind us all about the excitement we felt as children.
In Gramercy, a traditional German bar and restaurant named Rolf’s becomes a Christmas Wonderland during holidays. As you walk through the wooden door, you are transported to the North Pole through their overwhelming displays of wreaths, lights, and Christmas decorations galore. Whether sitting in a private booth or open table, you can look around and see everyone else’s matched excitement in the room. If the decorations don’t get you in the mood, try the mulled wine or the eggnog. Finished with a cinnamon stick, the warm mulled wine is a delicious treat. The Eggnog is one of the best recipes I have found in NYC. So cozy up with some friends or loved ones and take a New York minute at Rolf’s. I guarantee it will make your Christmas season a lot more festive.
For dinner/appetizer suggestions, I would try the traditional Bratwurst or Potato Pancakes. Nothing says a cold Winter’s night much like a fulling German meal. At Rolf’s the romance between Alsatian and Bavarian Cuisine is apparent. The ambiance is festive and warming. And I swear, it always smells like pancakes.
