Get your black markers ready and “X” up your hands because JUDGE, with the original lineup, will be reuniting for two back-to-back shows at Black N Blue Bowl 2013 on May 18th and 19th.
HOLY SHIT GUYS!!!!
That’s right! JUDGE, who hasn’t played since 1991, WILL be playing 22 years after their breakup.
BNB 2013, produced by Black N’ Blue Productions, expands to two days this year and New York Hardcore (NYHC) fans will flock to Webster Hall to see some of the greatest hardcore bands of all time. Past bands that have played BNB include Gorilla Biscuits, Agnostic Front, Terror, Down to Nothing, Youth of Today, Sheer Terror, DYS, Outburst and a Warzone tribute to Raybeez. This year, BNB boasts a killer lineup including JUDGE, Breakdown (original demo lineup), Black Train Jack (reunion), Strife, Madball, Strength Approach, Altercation (reunion), and Kill Your Idols just to name a few. I was able to attend BNB last year and you bet your ass I got my tickets for this year as soon as they were available. Rumor has it both days sold out within minutes online and are now only available at Generation Records, NYHC Tattoo, Lotus Tattoo, and a limited number at the door so get in line early!
JUDGE, formed by John “Porcell” Porcelly and Mike “Judge” Ferraro in 1987, sought to focus their music on militant straight edge dogma. Ferraro and Porcelly were both members of the straight edge band Youth of Today and Ferraro, upset about how Youth of Today’s positive straight edge lyrics were thought to be too militant, wanted to start a provocative and truly militant straight edge band to piss people off. With lyrics like “Those drugs are gonna kill you if I don’t get to you first,” JUDGE definitely fit the bill as an angry edge band.
After the announcement that JUDGE would reunite, Ferraro did an interview on BNB Takeover. “Sometimes you’re not there at the right time” Ferraro said when commenting on some of the motivation behind reuniting JUDGE. He said that a lot of kids who love older bands never had a chance to see them and he hopes this reunion will give some younger JUDGE fans the opportunity. JUDGE will be performing with the original lineup including Ferraro (vocals), Porcelly (guitar), Sammy Seigler (drums), Lars Weiss (guitar), and Matt Pincus (bass).
I’ll see you kids in the pit. And hopefully, after two epic days of hardcore, we won’t be too black and blue.
