Executive chef Shane Lyons and partner Nick Iovacchini have opened Distilled in Tribeca . Embodying the spirit of a historic American public house, the 110-seat restaurant serves a menu of regional favorites elevated with modern techniques and global flavors in a welcoming, communal setting.
Lyons, formerly of Momofuku Noodle Bar, showcases a creative menu that is both familiar and progressive. Appetizers debuting on the opening menu include Charred Broccoli with house-made duck bacon and pickled watermelon rind; Roasted Mushrooms with black vinegar and soubise; and a refreshing Herbs & Greens Salad with Preserved Lemon Dressing. Main courses include Country Fried Duck & Waffles with French toast-style waffles and smoked Serrano maple syrup; King Salmon with Beets, Horseradish and Béarnaise; and 24-Hour Slow Cooked Pork Ribs with Watermelon, Red Onions and Pickled Mustard Seed. A selection of desserts, such as Apple Pie Soda Float (yes you read that correctly!) with caramel, vanilla and pie crust; Lemon Meringue Pie with blueberries, thyme and yuzu; and the classic Americana dish S’mores round out the menu. For those looking to have a quick bite at the bar, a raw bar and snack items that include a selection of oysters with bread & butter relish and barrel-age fish sauce spiked cocktail sauce, and my mouth salivates at thinking of their Twice-Fried Chicken Wings with Gochujang Sauce and Point Reyes Blue Cheese.
Distilled’s beverage program, designed by the team of Sheldon Wiley who holds the Guinness Book of World Record’s title as “World’s Fastest Bartender” and Benjamin Wood, features classics like the Old Fashioned, Manhattan and Daquiri alongside specialty cocktails like the Tribecan (bourbon, Carpano Antica, chocolate bitters, lemon oil and an absinthe rinse), Derby Shrub (Amaro CioCiaro, apricot shrub, chamomile-infused rye and fresh mint) and Mead Americano with honey mead, gin, Aperol and grapefruit bitters. The wine list, directed by Kristie Petrullo, focuses on regional American wines alongside global offerings. A variety of craft beers by the bottle and on tap include Ommegang Rare Vos and Greenport Harbor Project Hoppiness, and a selection of meads round out the menu.
Inspired by historic American public houses that served as social anchors of towns and neighborhoods for centuries, Distilled is located in a landmarked space in the heart of Tribeca. The restaurant features high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer diners a warm and inviting atmosphere. The spacious floor plan includes an open kitchen, chef’s counter, raw bar and expansive bar area, as well as an elevated outdoor patio that seats up to 40 in the warm summer months. I don’t know about you, but this restaurant has happy hour written all over it.
